Uh oh. Hold on to your seats everyone Michael is about to endeavor into the wonder world of politics. Which I’ve been thinking about but avoiding on my blog. I Just haven’t found the correct way to do so. I tried serious and meaningful. And it came out like some damn high school essay. Well fuck that I am about to approach this with as little care and as much irreverence I can muster. Which could turn out into a giant convoluted meaningless mess. So with out further delay here we go.
Sitting at my desk in glorious multi-task mode, invoicing endless research projects and somehow managing to have life changing political discussions with myself, a wonderful little ditty hit me. The ditty you ask. Well the title of the blog of course silly. It dawned on me I am in fact a freakin' Republican again.
As a quick trip down the history of Michael's political associations I give you this:
I began my humble life as a brainwashed Republican. Taught the glories of Republican moral virtues (cough …cough… yeah right) while Democrats were essentially evil (ehh… probably closer to the truth). In college I became, as my good friend Anderson Layne once called me, a "Closet Democrat".
Okay, what really happened is I discovered Libertarianism. And in order to escape the issue at all. I declared my Libertarianism to all. Consequently, it is a great way to avoid debate and to receive wonderful looks of ( as John Stewart says) whaaa..?
Ok to put all the drunken debate, I so calmly side stepped most of my life to rest. Here in a nut shell is the core of my political beliefs.
FOR:
Protection of individual freedom above everything, smaller government = good, and jesus christ do we really need to be spending all our money on all that shit (i.e. fiscal responsibility)
AGAINST:
SOCIALISM in any form, America’s sense of entitlement, Hillary Clinton in any form of pant suit, George Bush especially when his mouth is open (insert favorite George Bushism here:_)) (I am an equal opportunity hater.)
Well if you traversed through all those parentheses alive let me sum up.
What I think makes America great is every single individual in it and their right to express their differences. Our government was founded on the principle that the right of these individuals should be defended at all cost. We as a nation have lost sight of this over the years. With a government bureaucracy that has continually expand its control over our precious individual rights. We as Americans have obtained instead a sense of freedom is a sense of entitlement. We think we have a right to make a bunch of money, never have anything bad happen to us, and blame the government instead of ourselves or the circumstances that created them. Everyone is screaming I want this or I want that or why don’t we have this. I don't know about you but, I don't want a damn thing from the Government other than to protect our border and our liberties. Everything else is just detail.
Ok so I know that this is all very simplistic and can't even begin to cover the ramifications of each little issue. But, it is why I lean Republican and why I am not a Democrat, and why I choose to call myself a Libertarian.
Anyways. stay tuned. Cause I plan on getting into the issues as well as some candidates in the upcoming presidential election. Then again I will refer you to Thus Began The Madness and my stance on keeping promises in this blog.
