Health (Happiness part duex)

Okay, this one is pretty easy. I'll say simply my short-term goals as far as my health are concerned are relatively under wraps. I'd say I'm more in maintenance mode versus work towards any improvement. Not that I don't need any. I just got bigger fish to fry so I'm happy were I am at.

So what are these goals I have so firmly under wraps. Well I stopped smoking. Check one. I am eating some what healthy. I exercise some what regularly. And of course the most important goal of them all. Damn, if I don't look good naked. Ok....first stop picturing me naked but, seriously lets not lie to ourselves. I do not know a damn person who tries to get in shape for their health. Deep down we all want to look good naked. Admit and then get over yourself. Or you'll be like me and write about it on your blog which can't be kosher.

What I really want to do with this blog is try and delicatly step up onto a little soap box and then try and step off it. And try and stay away from it for as long as possible. The reason I want to get on my soap box cause I always hear people trying to get in shape and going to the gym and the methods and their routine seem so .... unefficient. So here is my methodolgy behind getting in shape in brief. Get off the damn treadmill and pick up something heavy. Yes, this includes females. You aren't going to get bulky your body chemistry isn't designed that way. How many times have you tried to go to the gym and start running everyday. Check out Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgroves blogs to the right to understand my reasoning behind all this. They can explain it a lot better. But, in a nut shell. While cardio exercises burn more calories at the time at the exact moment then lifting weights. Doing something dynamic such as lifting weights boost metabolism for up to 2 to 3 days. Without doing anymore work. Your body also adjust to a slow steady pace after awhile and burns less and less no matter how long you are on the treadmill. If you like to run go for it anything is better than nothing. But, if you don't really enjoy the process anyways do something more efficient and pick up a damn weight. (Quick note of caution if you have never done free weight learn correct form first or you'll probably hurt yourself and get weird stares at the gym.)

As for diet keep it simple. What I do is if it is reasonably natural. Say meat, bread, cheese, nuts, etc. etc. I can eat it. I stay away from pre-packaged, fried, or sugar laced carby foods. I don't spend a whole lot of time wondering if things such as eggs are going to kill me, or if I should cut out all carbs or all fat. (I do try and limit saturated fats.) I worry more about all those things in packaged foods I can't pronounce, trans fats, and pastries. I eat about five small meals a day. I eat a lot of protein and healthy fats and try to add as much vegetables to my diet as I can muster. Thats about it really. I should eat more fruit but, havn't managed to fit them in to the diet yet. I try to drink a lot of green tea too but, that one is hit or miss. Though it is said to have a thermogenic effect (burns more calories than usual) and have other benefits. The only supplement I use really is protein powder and fish oil.

Thats it. I'm getting off my soap box now.
